PolicyBeacon.
The first platform built to help policyholders and trustees understand, manage, and maximize the performance of inforce life insurance. We reconstruct a policy's true mechanics, project the insured's longevity, and cost out every realistic path forward.
The problem hiding inside most policies
88–95% of universal life policies terminate before the death of the insured — and the death benefit is never paid. The reasons are structural: the premiums an agent originally illustrated are not guaranteed to sustain coverage for life, crediting rates have run below illustration for two decades, and the premiums actually required to carry a policy to maturity average 3–5× the planned premium. Carriers aren't required to warn owners as costs rise, so most discover the problem only when catch-up premiums — sometimes 10×+ the original — arrive too late to fix cheaply.
For professional trustees, an unmonitored policy isn't just a financial risk; it's a fiduciary one.
What a PolicyBeacon assessment delivers
Each assessment is a comprehensive, independent read on a single policy — the analysis behind the recommendation, in plain language. It moves from where the policy stands today, to how long coverage actually needs to last, to exactly what to do about it.
Reverse-engineered policy mechanics
We reconstruct the policy's real engine — cost-of-insurance curves, charges, crediting rates, no-lapse guarantees, and riders — from the carrier's own documents.
Independent longevity analysis
A full survival-probability curve: projected lifespan, the odds of living to ages 90, 95, and 100, and a Recommended Target Lapse Age set where survival probability is roughly 10% or lower.
Shadow Account Value projections
We project the exact age a policy lapses under each funding pattern, so 'is this policy on track?' becomes a number, not a hope.
Transparent basis of analysis
Every input is labeled with its source and a confidence level — high, medium, or low — so you always know what's measured versus assumed.
Three fully-costed strategies
We don't hand over data and wish you luck. A life insurance expert evaluates the policy against the owner's goals and lays out every realistic path — including options others leave out:
- Level funded premiums. Pay a stable, predictable premium to a chosen target age — simple to budget and lapse-safe when actively managed.
- Minimally funded premiums. Pay the minimum to keep coverage in force — lower short-term cost and often a higher internal rate of return, with closer monitoring.
- Sell the policy for cash. When coverage is no longer needed, a life-settlement analysis compares projected settlement value against cash surrender value over time.
How we get there — our methodology
Five steps turn a pile of documents into a decision: (1) collect policy documents, health information, and the owner's goals; (2) project longevity to anchor lapse-risk analysis; (3) break down the policy's mechanics by reverse-engineering its core features; (4) develop tailored strategies with a life insurance expert; and (5) compile, accuracy-review, and deliver the assessment with clear, actionable recommendations.
Where we are, and where we're heading
Today, PolicyBeacon is in beta and delivered as a polished, on-demand assessment produced through our platform. The direction is a fully client-facing experience: upload new policy documents, watch results update in real time, run your own funding and settlement scenarios, and monitor the policy continuously — with proactive alerts the moment a variable changes, whether that's a cost increase, a crediting- rate drop, a health change, or a shift in financial goals. The engine powering that future is the same rigorous analysis behind every assessment we deliver now.
Why InsuriShield
We've analyzed tens of thousands of policies, and we're genuinely independent: we don't work for, represent, or earn commissions from carriers or agents, and we're not financial advisors. We arm policyholders, advisors, and trustees with detailed, unbiased recommendations to maximize a policy's performance, reduce premium payments, and prevent the worst-case scenario of an early lapse. All analyses are mathematically derived and provided for informational purposes — they are not legal, financial, or medical advice.
